Riding a Bullet in Sikkim
We’ve just completed the last tour for the season with a great bunch of Aussies (and a Kiwi who took the brunt of our humour)… the Zen Bullet Sikkim 2014. This was a Royal Enfield Bullet ride through the lush valleys and mountainous places of Sikkim.
If you’re not quite sure where that is… just imagine the sweeping belt of the Himalayas, with Nepal taking up a big chunk in the middle. Then look to the right and there is Sikkim sandwiched between Nepal and Bhutan to the left and right, and between Tibet and India to the top and bottom. It’s geographical position makes it a gateway region between those three Himalayan countries and India, and as a result it is a culturally diverse and historically fascinating place.
The ride went very well, the only disappointment being cloudy weather that obscured the mountains most days, but I think everyone was happy with the scenery and the roads certainly made for great riding. Meetings with locals along the way gave us the opportunity for insightful cultural interactions, and we made the most of it by trying the local food and home-brew drinks along the way.
Next year, we’ve got 3 Zen Bullet rides planned, all carefully scheduled to take advantage of the best riding season in each region.
